Teaching

My favorite aspect of teaching is that it allows lets me directly impact the way students think about music, psychology, and education in general. I believe that a teacher should not only assist students with learning new material, but also the process of asking and answering their own questions.  I believe that teachers should let their enthusiasm arouse the curiosity of their students.

Through my experiences in teaching both as a graduate student at UVA and on faculty at Longwood University, I've had the chance to teach on a wide variety of topics.  Additionally, I have been able to teach at a number of different levels, with experiences ranging from introductory classes to smaller seminars to 400-level senior capstone courses.  By serving as a TA during my time in graduate school, I have been able to observe different teaching styles and philosophies in action and strive to incorporate this background into my own teaching.

I have independently taught the following courses:
    Psychology of Music
A 400-level senior capstone seminar for psychology students at UVA

    Science of Music seminar
Upper-level seminar for music students interested in music perception and cognition at Longwood University

An introductory course for general education credit at Longwood
